THE EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT

Each food item has a different ticket cost based on its health value. For example, a banana may cost three tickets while a small bag of candy may cost 21. This teaches the concept that unhealthy food comes at a greater cost; here, a participant will have to be more active and burn more calories (so that they can earn more tickets) in order to earn the privilege of eating a less healthy snack.

OUR SPEAKER

This year, we are fortunate to have Sandra Jester as our keynote speaker. A two-time breast cancer survivor who unfortunately lost her mother to breast cancer in 1982, Ms. Jester is an expert in the topics of cancer and healthy living. She will not only speak about her own experiences; she will also read her daughter Emmalee's essay on how a diagnosis and radiation affect not just the patient, but the entire family. This essay won a contest at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA.

Ms. Jester will also be selling Touchstone Crystal Jewelry by Swarovski with portions of the proceeds going back to the fight against cancer, with 10% of sales going to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and 10% going to the American Cancer Society. She can be contacted before the event by email at SJest2@aol.com or by phone at (203) 247-2354.
